MOKB Exclusive : Dar Williams : Cool As I Am

I don’t think she’s ever gotten the respect she deserves, but I’ve been a Dar Williams fan for quite a while. Admittedly, I’ve lost track of her career in recent years, but I have no qualms about listing Mortal City (1996) as one of my all-time favorite folk records on the strength of impossibly perfect songs like Iowa (Traveling III) and February. If you’re not familiar with this incredible singer-songwriter’s body of work, the time is nigh and the good folks at  Razor & Tie are happy to play enabler.

On October 12th, Ms. Williams will look back on her career to this point with the release of Many Great Companions. The uninitiated will appreciate the twenty song compilation of her most significant songs on Disc 2 of Many Great Companions, but I’m feening for Disc 1. That’s where you’ll get dozen songs acoustically reinterpreted with producer/guitarist Gary Louris (Jayhawks) and guests like Sara Watkins, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Patty Larkin.  MOKB is mighty happy to present the exclusive premier of the acoustic version of Mortal City’s leadoff track, Cool As I Am.

My all time favorite artist. And she’s just as lovely in person as she is in her craft. I’m going to see her for the third time in two weeks. Can’t pick a single favorite song but I can say the Live version of “What Do You Hear in These Sounds” from the Lilith Fair: A Celebration of Women album is outstanding.

Thanks for sharing! Love, love, love it! I’ve been a fan ever since “When I was a boy” but this song is definitely in my top three all time favorites.
