Finally got my copy of Revolver’s Music For A While in the post. First off, I’m somewhat pained to report that after setting the bar so high with Get Around Town, nothing else on the record quite reaches that level of undeniable pop perfection. Like young Icarus, the French trio of Ambroise, Christophe Musset and Jérémie simply flew too high, too soon. Does that mean Music For A While is a défaillance? Far from it.
In fact, Music For A While boasts far more depth than the aforementioned earwig suggests. And while tunes like Untitled #1 are guaranteed to appease pop aficionados, the money tune here might just be Birds In Dm, a much darker number which suggests Revolver’s rehearsal space might house well-worn copies of The Weavers At Carnegie Hall, The Kingston Trio and Wednesday Morning, 3AM. That being said, in the hands of the man behind Tigersushi, Birds In Dm is transformed into a relentless rumpshaker sure to make the kids squeal.
