Sometimes in life you have a pretty good idea of what you’re getting into. Hit the local $5.99 all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet for lunch today, and there’s a pretty good chance you’re going to end up with a long painful afternoon of gastrointestinal distress. Check out Hillstomp on their current tour with Reverend Horton Heat and Split Lip Rayfield, and you might end up with near the same from overindulgence on greasy gutshot blues and cheap beer. Now, don’t go jumping to conclusions. Hillstomp ain’t some Johnny-come-lately trust fund kids milking the blues schtick before they get haircuts and start their Wall Street internships. Nope, Hurricane Henry and Lord Johnny Buckets have been milking this schtick for pert near a decade, largely because they have no other marketable skills.

Building on the momentum of two EPs, two full-lengths (One Word and The Woman That Ended The World) and the live After Two But Before Five, the Pride of Portland seem poised for the big time. Besides that filet spot on the Rev’s tour, Hillstomp will be creeping into your living room this fall when their song Cardiac Arrest In D is featured in an episode of Sons Of Anarchy. I’m guessing maybe a fight scene. Or a bar scene. Or even a bar fight scene.
