Artists hailing from Montreal are constantly pushing the dial forward in music with their ability to repackage an eclectic spectrum of influences into fresh takes. Emerging newcomer Max T is an extreme example of this idea offering a vibrant version of pop created with uninhibited experimentation of found sounds and vocal harmonies. On March 24th, he will be unveiling his debut EP, Palm Isle, through Bloomington, Indiana’s Winspear (pre-order the cassette here). The collection explores the transition from youthful idealism to the complexities that that come with getting older. The first song from the release is the exuberant “Terror, Bright.” Inevitably, comparisons to ceo or Animal Collective, more specifically Panda Bear, will be made and they will be correct. However, we can’t help but be excited about the potential of an artist who captures their sound so remarkably well and reinvents it in new and interesting ways.
