Gospel, blues, and soul music has always been the ultimate lie detector. You can’t fake it or cover it up with production tricks. Either it is real or it is not. Portland, OR singer Liz Vice is the truth with no additives. Being diagnosed with an auto-immune disease at age 15, she felt old age was a pipe dream. Vice recounts, “I didn’t think I was going to live past 20 years old.” With that uncertainty, she pushed through years of pain until she received a new lease on life in the form of a kidney transplant.

Subsequently, she pursued her passion of film and acting, only to start attending a church in Portland. It is there that she felt the need to audition for the worship team, a group of singers and musicians for the church. This divine intervention modestly began the path that has lead to release of her debut album, There’s a Light (pre-order here), via Ramseur Records on September 25th with even a cosign by arguably the biggest breakout artist of 2015, Leon Bridges, coming via his instagram.

We are extremely excited to have her latest track to present you gospel-pop fusion “Pure Religion.” While not trying to sound hyperbolic, if you took a little of the jazzy traits of Nina Simone mixed with the depth in tone and effortless delivery of an Aretha Franklin, this might be the result. Spin it below.
