Steel Phantoms is the Brooklyn-based indie rock duo comprised of former Islands drummer Aaron Harris and Jessie Newkirk. They released their debut EP, Forer, in 2011 and subsequently toured with the likes of Active Child and and Harris’ former band Islands. On July 16th, they will be releasing a new self-titled EP. The first single from the album is the jangly, frenetic “Curtain Call.” With the song you can see elements that bring to mind bands like The Walkmen, The Dodos, or Japandroids. Not to mention, you have to love when the drummer takes on vocal duties. With guitar-driven music becoming more and more of an exception versus the rule in the land of synths and EDM, Steel Phantoms are a very capable shock to the chest of rock music letting us know it is not going to be dying anytime soon.

The video for the previously mentioned “Curtain Call” depicts the band playing retro TV characters along with the story of a little boy who chooses TV over real life. You can find the visual below along with a download of the track.
