DC-based Midnight Faces is the newly formed duo of Matthew Warn and Philip Stancil. Warn is veteran of the scene. He began making music with Jonny Pierce (of The Drums), resulting in a LP released by Columbia Records. In addition, he later went on to form the post-rock instrumental outfit Saxon Shore with Josh Tillman (of Fleet Foxes and Father John Misty), releasing three EPs, and two albums. Stancil has also been a part of numerous bands since his teens. He was introduced to Warn through a mutual friend and they hit it off.
“Holding On” is the second single from their dubut album, Fornication, slated for release on June 18th via Broken Factory. According to Warn, the pair “dialed in that chime-y ‘Bizarre Love Triangle’ sound on the Juno over a driving Moog bass line.” The cold sounds of the synths rolling underneath Stancil’s warm, soaring vocals creates a subtle balance within the song drawing the listener in. It is a solid intro to the band leaving us awaiting more of what has yet to come.
