Album : Big Scary : Vacation

Having conquered their homeland down under, Aussie indie rock duo Big Scary is setting their sights on the States, as they release their debut LP Vacation on September 18th via Pieater Records. The Melbourne-based boy/girl team of Tom Iansek (lead vox, guitar, keyboards) and Joanna Syme (backing vox, drums) are already a well-celebrated act, winning over fans and critics alike with their electic sound that veers wildly from driving, distorted noise-rock to sparse, haunting, piano-led balladry. It seems musical genre boundaries are merely a vague notion to this intrepid twosome as they follow their plucky muse through 80’s new wave/techno, 90’s grunge and the aughts’ sensitive shoe-gazing, to the present time and place of evocatively resonant sounds they can call uniquely their own. With their tunes already on Grey’s Anatomy and a national AT&T ad, not to mention selling out headlining tours and opening for the likes of Florence and The Machine, I think it’s safe to say it’s time for the rest of us to jump on the Big Scary bandwagon, and just enjoy the ride.

Check out the track “Falling Away” and the full album stream of Vacation below, as well as the handful of tour dates you can catch Big Scary at throughout October.
