Album : The Helio Sequence : Negotiations

Great news from Sub Pop Records this week – the beloved Portland duo The Helio Sequence is finally putting out their highly anticipated, first new album in four years, titled Negotiations this September 11th 2012 in CD, album and digital formats.

The new album marks the fifth full-length written, recorded and produced by singer-guitarist Brandon Summers and drummer-keyboardist Benjamin Weikel. It also takes on a looser, free-for-all vibe than the band’s previous efforts. It can be suggested that might have something to do with the 2009 flooding of their former studio/practice space while the band was on tour in support of their 4th LP, 2008’s Keep Your Eyes Ahead. Fortunately, they had their best equipment with them on the road, but it did bring about the need to find an entirely new space to play and record their music. The result: Negotiations, a celebratory, breathtaking album full of gorgeous, glittering meditations about loss, memories and re-birth. And you can feel it all; even in the brief preview video piece The Helio Sequence has provided to tide us over until the drop date. Warning: If you were already jonesin’ for their next record, this amazing preview may put you into an apoplectic state.

Until then, lucky Pacific Nor’westers can catch The Helio Sequence both at Bumbershoot on September 1st and at the record release show for Negotiations at The Crystal Ballroom on Friday September 7th. The band is also planning a massive tour in support of the album, TBA.
