New Band Smell : Fawn

Thundering drums, a lead guitar wailing over thick walls of other guitars, and dueling or cooperative male and female vocals: Fawn definitely has its roots in the ‘90s. Whether or not you like Juliana Hatfield, Sonic Youth, Yuck or the Pixies, Fawn infuses every note with fresh passion. The band’s full-length debut, Coastlines is an energetic, rockin’ shoegaze smorgasbord. Somebody should make an adult cartoon show, or at least an animated short, to go with one of its best tracks, such as “The Forest.” I love the dual guitar progression on that one. Residing in Detroit, Fawn is former Kiddo member Christian Doble, Alicia Gbur (formerly of the Von Bondies), percussionist Matt Rickle, and former Transatlantics guitarist Mike Spence. Hear it for yourself, then download it for your next road trip. Which is easy to do at the Quite Scientific site:
