Savannah, GA’s Dare Dukes is fresh off his latest release Thugs and China Dolls last month. The album was recorded with of the Modern Skirts, of Montreal, and TV on the Radio, as well as a song produced by Jim White.
The release portrays Dukes’ own unique vision of American life through the use of suburbia and all that comes with living there. According to Dare, “Everyone knows the clichés about suburbia: It’s a stark, sanitized landscape, pretty much soulless,” Dare explains. No one needs to remind us of that. I’m more interested in the poetry I see there–the weirdness, the anomalies, the resistance. Even in this unlikely grid you can find courageous people and precious things.” We have the premiere of his latest single When the Sky Breaks and his rendition of the classic Brian Eno track Some of Them are Old. You can download both below.
Thugs and China Dolls is out now through Mazarine Records.
