THURSDAY in INDY : SON LUX + Helado Negro at The Indianapolis Museum of Art

MOKB Presents is very proud to partner with the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Big Car, and Asthmatic Kitty Records to support the inaugural Outsound V.1 music and video festival!  This Thursday we welcome SON LUX to the IMA’s Toby Theater.  (Buy your tickets here!)

Manhattan-based artist and composer, Ryan Lott, also an IU music graduate, received national accaim by National Public Radio’s All Songs Considered, which picked Son Lux as its best new artist of 2008 on the strength of debut album At War with Walls and Mazes.

This past February, Son Lux released his follow-up, We Are Rising, through Anticon Records. The new album features guest appearances from Peter Silberman (Antlers), DM Stith, and Shara Worden (My Brightest Diamond). The album was created and recorded in 28 days and tracked by NPR’s RPM Challenge.

Opening for Son Lux on Thursday at the Indianapolis Museum of Art is Helado Negro, a vehicle for experimental producer Roberto Carlos Lange, who in May released his second Asthmatic Kitty album, Canta Lechuza.

The Outsound V.1 music and video festival is and exhibition of new video art and three nights’ worth of local and touring electronic music acts at the IMA and Big Car’s Service Center for Contemporary Culture and Community.

    That first Son Lux record came to me in an unmarked envelope from a long-lost friend who lives across the country. It was completely unexpected and it blew my mind. Great winter shroud music.
