Upcoming My Old Kentucky Blog Presents concert events, powered by Do317.com
MOKB is delighted to debut the single The Trend by Portland, Oregon’s The Angry Orts, a tasty musical apper-teaser of what’s to come from the not yet released PDX Pop Now! 2011’s double-disk Compilation CD; in eager anticipation of their volunteer-driven, all-ages, three-day music festival to be held at Refuge PDX this July 22-24th.
As you may or may not know, the PDX Pop Now! Festival is truly one for the kids; including a free, multi-genre, live performance showcase of nearly fifty bands over three days. As well as it’s a grassroots non-profit that partners with the City Of Portland to have free concerts at City Hall, the Portland School System to allow local musicians to come into their classrooms to teach and the OLCC and local businesses in order to make all-ages concerts both possible and safe.
The festival, compilation CD, and outreach projects are supported by donations from local individuals, businesses and music foundations, but tax-deductible donations are still needed in order to help cover the costs of the stages, sound systems, engineers, lighting and promotion. PDX Pop Now’s! mission is to celebrate the vast diversity of Portland’s music scene while ensuring it’s access to those who might otherwise lack the resources or time to enjoy it. By bringing a wide variety of artists and audience together at the free event, PDX Pop Now! is genuinely a testament to the city’s nationwide rep as a highly creative DIY mecca of the arts.
And now, joining such past PDX Pop Now! Compilation CD and festival notables as The Decemberists, M. Ward, Sleater-Kinney and The Shins, is The Angry Orts. With their feverish, hook-heavy beat, cracker-jack drumming and a biting vocal evocative of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s Karen O, these feisty Portland whippersnappers dig in and don’t let go. Nor would you want them to.
