D. Rider Is Dead is the next generation of D. Rider, an avant-garde rock band founded and fronted by U.S. Maple mastermind, guitarist/singer Todd Albert Rittmann. The band’s 2009 debut, Mother Of Curses, was a white-hot poker to the kiester of Chicago’s music scene, establishing the four-piece as a force to be reckoned with, and after two years of woodshedding and touring, the now five-piece band is back with The Raw Dents (available May 6th on Tizona Records).
Lead single, Mothers Meat, nicely encapsulates the band’s muscular M.O.: angular and Ribot-esque guitar runs, pummeling synths and knee-buckling syncopation, all topped with Rittmann’s Bowie-on-acid stream of consciousness vocals. Highly recommended for folks who absolutely cannot wait for the next QoTSA or Them Damn Vultures record.
