MOKB Exclusive : Tucker Finn : Great Work Of Fiction

A co-founder of beloved alt-country crooners The Jane Waynes, Tucker Finn will go it alone starting October 26th when she takes the wraps off her solo debut, The Cup & The Lip. Since I know you’re interested, the record’s title is derived from an old English proverb, “There’s many a slip ‘twixt the cup and the lip.” Translation: Don’t count your chicken before they hatch, pal.

Eschewing the all-on-one-side convention of CD, The Cup & The Lip is presented as a two-act play, chock full of flawed characters, poignant vignettes and the littlest of epiphanies. It’s one of those records that gnaws at you, striking a little deeper and scraping a little harder with each successive listen. Fans of great songwriting, particularly in the vein of Aimee Mann will find an immediate and almost unhealthy attraction to The Cup & The Lip. The line starts here for doubters, with the MOKB premiere of Great Work Of Fiction.

I love finding new, interesting, and different music. But, this just rips at my eardrums, and not in a good way. Lyrically she is alright, but musically this stuff is over produced and could, in my opinion, be presented much better.

I check MOKB everyday for new music and this week I was a bit behind. While filtering through the older posts I stumbled upon Tucker Finn and was pleasantly surprised. Her music is beautiful and not overwhelming. Lyrics are great, sound is strong and dynamic and I would love to see a live show. Job well done MOKB for succeeding once again!

What a thoughtful and original production…. the song’s unique, haunting, and delightful. I’m chewing on who I could be, too, Tucker.

Musically and lyrically, this sears to my core. How exciting to get to find a new talent, and can’t wait to see her live!
