MOKB Exclusive : The Philistines Jr. : If I Did Nothing But Train For Two Years, I Bet I Could Be in the Olympics

Last couple of years, seems nary a week has passed in which we didn’t have the occasion to mention, or more often than not, praise the work of Peter Katis. Well, after lending his ear to a slew of high-quality releases from the likes of The National, Interpol, Mates of State and The Twilight Sad, Katis has decided to get the band back together, the band in this case being The Philistines Jr., a unit that also features brother Tarquin and Mice Parade drummer Adam Pierce.

Never heard of The Philistines Jr.? Not a shock, as the unit has been on mothballs for nine years. Of course, music biz years are like dog years, so a lotta folks, myself included, greeted the announcement of If A Band Plays in the Woods…? with equal parts enthusiasm and concern. To test the waters, the band has let some famous friends have their way with the new tracks, a couple of which were leaked to the cool kids on the web, and the results are encouraging. By the time snow starts flying, you’ll be able to purchase If A Lot Of Bands Play In The Woods…?, a shit ton of covers and remixes by The National, Jonsi, Tapes n’ Tapes, Tokyo Police Club, Oneida, Mercury Rev, Mice Parade, Mates of State, Jukebox the Ghost et al, but first you’re probably going to want to pick up the real McCoy, which drops on October 19th.

MOKB is pleased as pie to premiere the splendidly-titled If I Did Nothing But Train For Two Years, I Bet I Could Be In The Olympics. While that probably sounds like the alcohol-fueled 1am boasting of one of your friends, the song itself sounds a little like Brian Eno fronting The National. And yes, it’s every bit as weird and wonderful as that suggests.
