Watch Men I Trust’s Video for “Tailwhip”

Considering they are quite possibly our favorite band at the moment (not to mention their satellite projects), we completely spaced on the video for Men I Trust’s latest pop perfect single “Tailwhip.” The song is easily one of our favorite tracks of 2017 and the video brings out the nostalgia with a collage of home videos from their childhood. The song brings to mind a more up-tempo early Zero 7, most specifically their songs with Sia and Sophie Barker, who lead singer Emma sounds like a blend of.

Negative Gemini Returns with “You Weren’t There Anymore”

Lindsey French, aka NYC artist Negative Gemini, has a new EP coming sometime this fall titled Bad Baby through the fine purveyors of off-center poptronica, 100% Electronica. “You Weren’t There Anymore” is the first single capturing the rawness of trying to shake a relationship gone wrong and the conflicting emotions that come with it. The EP follows-up last year’s excellent debut LP from her, Body Work.

Photo Recap: Mac DeMarco at White River State Park

Mac DeMarco’s set on Tuesday night at the Lawn at White River State Park, sandwiched in between The Flaming Lips and Chappo, was everything longtime fans could have hoped for. On the road touring his latest album, This Old Dog, DeMarco and his band were an onstage mix of sharp musicians, skilled cover artists, and purveyors of fun. Fans in the crowd shrieked DeMarco’s name in anticipation hours before he was due to arrive on stage, and generally lost their damn minds when he actually did walk out to the theme from Top Gun. The set ran the gamut between the smooth crooning of “On the Level” and the raucous, frenetic energy of “Freaking Out The Neighborhood,” eliciting fervent applause from fans. Those on the fence about DeMarco beforehand were handily won over by the singer’s sense of humor, best exemplified with a 10min cover of Vanessa Carlton’s “1000 Miles” that consisted almost exclusively of the song’s first four words. As another photographer put it: “just the best.”

Fresh LaundroMatinee Session: Damien Jurado at LUNA music

In an effort to connect with fans and rediscover the network of musical communities that exist outside of major cities, Damien Jurado has embarked upon an ambitious 50 State Tour. “We are nothing without the connection to one another,” he writes, explaining his desire to create more small and profound moments: “If that isn’t worth getting together and celebrating, I don’t know what is.”

Jurado played four shows in our state during June, traveling through Griffith, Ft. Wayne, South Bend, and Indianapolis. While stopping in Indy, he spent part of the afternoon performing to a capacity crowd at LUNA music and sticking around to chat afterwards. The performance was indicative of the connection between artist and audience at the heart of Jurado’s tour: all parties were gracious, appreciative, and just plain enjoying themselves. Be sure to catch a show when he comes through your state.

Premiere: Stream the Fragile “Better Man (Southern Drawl)” from Duncan Kissinger

 photo Duncan_Kissinger_Make-Time-Stop_zpstxjxpvxp.jpg

Make Time Stop is the name of the upcoming LP from Indianapolis native Duncan Kissinger and it is slated to drop on September 22nd via the trusted Bloomington, Indiana label Winspear. The solo collection of songs is an intimate reflection of Kissinger’s life as the 26-year-old gravitates further into adulthood contemplating love and all questions that come with. “Better Man (Southern Drawl)” is the third reveal from the release (listen to the other two Bandcamp) and gently rolling track that will draw obvious comparisons to early Kurt Vile with its lo-fi, bedroom aesthetic and twangy vocals. The song couldn’t be a more gorgeous backdrop as we slowly drift closer and closer to autumn. Pre-orders for the limited edition cassette and digital can be found here and here.
