Bad Cello is the project of Utica, NY native Zeno Pittarelli. What started as more of acoustic folk has slowly become more synthesized electric pop after he “got a little tired of being the sad folk guy.” Today marks the release of his new EP, Finna, digitally via Double Whammy/Miscreant Records with the physical coming on September 17th. The release is full of colorful and fluttering beats and synth-lines shot through a computer for more experimental finish that works whether you are out in the sunshine or in a club during the fall or winter. So even though those summer days are starting to dwindle, your desire to listen to this won’t. Find the stream of the EP below.

Good Graeff acoustic folk pop duo of twins Brooke and Brittany Graeff. The two formed the project when they were just 16 years old in Florida. Bucking the trends of most twins, they both went their separate way with Brooke heading off to Canada and Brittany to Europe.

MP3: Good Graeff – Hold Me Fast

Last year, the two reunited in Vietnam and immediately started playing music together again for an outlet with no intentions of it turning into anything serious. However, after their neighbors heard the duo, they were asked to play a party and received positive praise.

The girls now are heavy into a Kickstarter campaign to help fund their EP and upcoming tour. Right now, they are approximately $1400 away from their $10000 goal with just a little under three day remaining. Head over to their Kickstarter page and support this promising project with any amount you can scrounge together big or small. As they say, every little bit counts.

EP : Y La Bamba : Oh February

Following both their 2010 soul-stirring debut LP Lupon and last year’s critically adored, Steve Berlin produced Court The Storm LP, Portland Oregon’s Y La Bamba now offers up the breathtaking EP Oh February just in time for…well, February. Produced by The Decemberist’s Chris Funk, this six song record feels as rich and loaded as a full-length with its compellingly warped, old-timey radio crackle and pop. Lead singer-songwriter Luzelena Mendoza’s whispery warble verbally weaves a patchwork quilt of songs full of surreal landscapes and vivid imagery amongst the rollicking percussion that drives this album along. From spookily somber to soaring heights of resounding joy, Y La Bamba takes rootsy, indie rock and spins it into a poetic, Latin-folk hootenanny of epic beauty. Oh February is out now on Tender Loving Empire while the band is on the road with The Lumineers. You can stream the entire EP here.

EP Stream : Black Books : Aquarena

A little over a week back, we premiered the beautifully melancholy video for “The Big Idea” from Austin’s Black Books. The song, taken from their forthcoming debut full-length, also appeared on the second episode of the latest season of TV’s Californication. To hold us over until then, the band, today, released a precurser to the album in the form of an EP titled Aquarena (can be purchased here). It is a small sample of their melodic, guitar driven rock in the vein of a Band of Horses or My Morning Jacket. Stream it below.
